Student Spotlight- Jessica Lindsey

-Tell us about yourself.

My name is Jessica Lindsey, I am a senior majoring in Public Relations.

-Where did you intern and how did you find it?

During the summer of 2017, I was an intern at ESPN which I found on the Disney Careers website.

-Briefly describe the organization.

ESPN is the largest worldwide sports entertainment company.

-What were your responsibilities as an intern and what communication skills did you utilize?

I worked with the social media team and specialized with YouTube. Grammar and punctuation/AP style were very important when making titles and descriptions for videos. Teamwork was also a huge aspect of the job as well as getting feedback from other members of the YouTube team, social media team, and digital video team. These were things I learned in many of my communications classes at MSU.

-What was the most enjoyable part of your internship?

The most enjoyable part about interning at ESPN was meeting people from all over. I loved working with a very diverse and open staff, no day was ever the same.

-What was the most challenging part of your internship?

We had an intern assignment called The Pitch. It was an intern competition of teams or singles where you pitch a business or show idea to a panel of ESPN managers/senior VPs.

-What advice or recommendations would you give to other students thinking about interning?

When looking for internships, apply for as many as possible as soon as possible. When you find something that seems fitting for your goals, do research on the companies you apply with.
